Dental implants
Dental implant surgery is a procedure used to replace missing or damaged teeth using metal implants that are surgically placed into the jawbone. This procedure is considered an effective and long-lasting solution for restoring the function of missing teeth and improving the aesthetic appearance of the mouth. The implants are designed to act as artificial tooth roots, allowing artificial teeth to be attached to them, making them very similar to natural teeth.
The dental implant procedure is performed in several stages. First, the dentist places the metal implant into the jawbone, and the bone needs time to integrate with the implant (osseointegration). After this stage, a crown, bridge, or fixed prosthesis is placed over the implant. This procedure offers greater stability compared to removable dentures or traditional bridges, as it does not require removing the artificial teeth for cleaning.
One of the advantages of dental implants is that they provide very natural-looking and functional results, helping patients regain their ability to chew and speak confidently. They also contribute to maintaining jawbone health, as tooth loss can lead to bone loss over time.
However, not everyone is a suitable candidate for dental implants, as sufficient bone in the jaw is required. In some cases, a bone graft may be necessary before dental implant surgery can begin.
